Potomac Water Watch

 WHAT IS HAPPENING?
Our fish are dying.
Many have a condtion called intersex. Many have sores. Our rivers, our drinking water, our bodies are polluted.
                                WHERE?
The Potomac, South Branch, Cacapon and
Shenandoah Rivers, among others,
                                  WHY?
It's complicated! We know it's pollution
but still don't know what emerging contaminants
and endocrine disrupters are causes.
ARE YOU AT RISK?
Maybe! Most city/town drinking water plants and
bottling plants don't filter out personal care products,
herbicides, pesticides, pharmaceuticals,
& antibiotic hand cleaners, for example.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Don't flush away old or unused medications.
Maintain a signifcant buffer strip along waterways.
Don't use antibacterial hand cleaners.
Monitor your use of plastics.
Work to improve home/community
sewage treatment plants and septic systems.
Work to get new product standards -
products without contaminants.
